Special Notice

HELP KEEP OUR CHILDREN SAFE.  Schools are in session, be on the lookout for our children and give them a brake whenever you observe them at school crossings. Be aware and alert, for our children boarding and disembarking school buses.

 

Police
The Police Department shall: Preserve the peace; protect life and property; detect, arrest and prosecute offenders of the laws of New Jersey and the ordinances of the Borough of Lawnside; direct and control traffic; provide attendance and protection during emergencies; provide appearances in court; cooperate with all other law enforcement agencies; and, provide training for the efficiency of its members and employees. ( N.J.S.A. 40A:14-118) .

Fire
The Lawnside Volunteer Fire Company has continuously protected the residents of Lawnside and the surrounding communities for many years. The Fire Company is made up of people from all walks all of life. We operate out of one station that houses a Ladder/Pumper more commonly known as a Quint, a Rescue Engine, referred to as a Squad Company, and a water supply engine. All of our members spend a great deal of their personnel time to train and are ready to respond in your time of need.

Zoning
The Zoning Office shall have the power to decide appeals where it is alleged by the appellant that there is error in any order, requirement, decision or refusal made by any municipal official based on or made in enforcement of the zoning ordinance. Zoning authorization is required for:

  • Erect a fence on your property
  • Construct a swimming pool
  • To build an addition to your home
  • To add a deck to your home
  • Build or rebuild your front porch
  • Erect a shed in your rear yard
  • Build a garage
  • Erect signs in a commercial zoning District
  • Construct patios
  • Operate a business in your home

Code Enforcement
The Code Enforcement office reviews construction plans, issues permits and inspects ongoing construction. All buildings are required to meet New Jersey Uniform Construction Code. All new construction must receive a Certificate of Occupancy (C.O.) from this department before the building can be occupied.
